A circular metal plate, usually made of brass, typically with a turned-down rim, used as a percussion musical instrument. Can be part of Malay music ensemble. Also struck to indicate that an event of function has been declared open. There are broadly three types of gongs: Suspended, bossed or nipple, and bowl. In most forms, it is struck in the centre with a felt or leather-covered beater.
